Kaleigh O'Merry

Kaleigh O’Merry is the Administrative Officer for the T. Denny Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion (TDSIEC). As Administrative Officer, Kaleigh develops and implements administrative operations and processes for the newly established institute. She also works closely with Institute Chairs, providing project management support on various research & recruitment initiatives.

 

Prior to TDSIEC, Kaleigh served in a similar capacity at the UC San Diego’s (UCSD) Halicioglu Data Science Institute (HDSI), which launched in 2018. At HDSI, she was influential in establishing the Institutes operational foundations. Outside of operational groundwork, she was nominated by the Institute leadership for the UCSD Exemplary Staff Employee of the Year Award for her contributions in building a strong community amongst local community members, academic affiliates, and industry partners.

 

As a San Diego native, Kaleigh is invested in giving back to her community. She has volunteered with the Friends of Scott Foundation - Friends to Kids with Cancer, a local non-profit, since 2009. With Friends of Scott, Kaleigh has served as Auction Chair for Annual Fundraising events and established the Annual Day at the Park outing, a yearly event that takes adolescent cancer patients and their families to a Padres baseball game. In addition, Kaleigh has volunteered with the local Alzheimer’s Association through event support and holding book clubs. She received her B.A. in Spanish, with an emphasis in Spanish Literature, and is a Project Management Professional.
