Hearing Myself Think
All healthcare providers deserve wellbeing, but this is hardly the experience for many. Providers operate in difficult and stressful working environments, especially during COVID-19. Taking care of patients involves constant confrontation with disease, human suffering, pain, and death. And oftentimes, that emotional pain is not recognized, faced or elaborated, which can bring on personal and professional implications.
That’s where Hearing Myself Think comes in. On the first Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. PST, the Center for Compassionate Communication’s poet-in-residence Thomas Dooley helps physicians, RNs, APPs, and medical students tap into expressive writing and self-reflection to help prevent and manage the effects of compassion fatigue, reduce burnout, and implement long-lasting coping strategies.
